2014-2018
The starting point was a question about the reality of a map, the fluidity of a territory, the notion of a place – and borders, the question of the historical process. The executed work is a photosensitive record of utopian territory of Slovak-Polish commonwealth, precisely designed on the maps – yet quickly forgotten. The works, based on original maps of a potential commonwealth, function as a transitory sketch of an impossible state, which never existed, and yet endures and pulsates, somewhere inside the image, on the verge (or borders) of its maps. A layout of the potential territory in lines, subjected to the processes of disappearance and erasure – but also, an organic transformation into subsequent images – the maps of an absent state.
